About

That’s my dog Nellie. I also have a cat called Sylvia and a wife called Hannah. Of course my wife is very beautiful, which everyone knows, because as Kurt Vonnegut said, “All male writers, incidentally, no matter how broke or otherwise objectionable, have pretty wives.”

Born and raised on the mean streets of Hull – I thank you for the commiserations currently running through your mind – I moved to Manchester aged 18 to complete a BA in English Literature at the University of Salford.

Moving to Leeds after graduating – and being dumped – I completed my MA in Contemporary Literature at Leeds Beckett University; my dissertation was on the mental health problems caused by neoliberalism in the characters of Bret Easton Ellis novels.

In case you’re wondering, no you cannot read my dissertation; I destroyed all copies of it after graduation in some sort of mad ritual.

Sylvia, the eternal beauty. She likes to stare at me whilst I write, really adds an angle of ‘impending deadline’ to proceedings.

I’ve published two novels, with my third coming 26 November.
